Fat Loss Diaries - Week Three
Hello and welcome back to another fat loss phase update from me! With my coaching business officially launched and getting to chat with other women about their fat loss goals it's really hit me how our mindset is the true battle. It's all well and good having a plan laid out in front of us, but unless we specifically identify as the woman we are aspiring to be, the likelihood is we are going to struggle with consistency. This week for me was another week of half term, so I knew that my normal routine would be slightly off without the usual school runs and having my daughter at home with me during the day. But that wasn't going to change the habits and actions I still needed to complete in order to be the Amber that I want to be. Admittedly, I only got into the gym twice, but I also got out for two additional runs which made me feel awesome. And that is what this life is all about, feeling like the best version of myself. Plus with my daughter at home, I get to show her the joys of movement by stepping outside for walks every day and exploring lovely local places.
Things that I am proud of this week that contributes towards my goals:
1. I completed the Tommy's 5k a Day in October challenge, meaning I completed over 155km in October (it was actually 171km in total to be exact!) and raised over £300 for Tommy's the baby and pregnancy charity.
2. I went out for two runs just because it felt good and both times I ran the whole way without stopping and even got my best average pace on one of them since before I was pregnant.
3. I had some fun cooking some homemade soup with a recipe I found on Instagram which was so wholesome and delicious and packed with protein and nutrients. It's a recipe that I will add to my bank of regular foods because it was easy to make and great for meal prepping for days I am not going to have time to cook or prepare meals.
The approach I am taking with this fat loss phase is very much focussed on the things I CAN do rather than things I am not allowed to do. It's the approach I incorporate into my coaching programmes because I don't believe in living a life of restriction, rather living a life that is full of wholesome moments that make us feel blessed to be alive. The evenings I ran, I ran because my body felt like it could. Plus I find that movement promotes energy and when you're breastfeeding a baby all night, energy is exactly what you need. I am able to find delicious meals that can be part of my diet that make me feel satiated and that I will turn to over a takeaway any day because they contribute towards the identity I am building. I remember a time when turning down a takeaway was a massive deal, now I regularly prefer a home cooked meal over fast food.
This fat loss phase has proven to me that the education I gained from my first fat loss phase pre-pregnancy was enough to now be able to eat intuitively, no longer needing to track calories every day. Just every now and again for the sake of calculating calories and macros in specific meals. It's also honed in on how important movement is in fat loss, not just gym movement, but the regular daily movement that we don't usually think is a massive deal. Going out for that walk on your lunch break is actually worth doing, believe me! Even if you think 30 minutes of walking is pointless, it's not only contributing towards your calorie deficit, but it's also contributing towards the identity you're building. You're the woman who moves her body, who priorities being outside in nature, who takes time away from her screen on a busy work day.
There are still women in this world who are not prioritising their health and it breaks my heart. For a long time I was one of them. Years of substance abuse, self harm, tolerance of unacceptable and sometimes abusive behaviour from the people around me. I spent so long watching women online doing amazing things with their bodies - running marathons, using the free weight section in the gym, for example. Yet I could never bring myself to do the actions that would make me into the woman who also did those things. It always seemed so far out of reach. I want to be the coach for the women who also feel like these goals are too far out of reach, that they could never be a woman who is strong and lifts weights, or is able to run a long distance, or is able to live in a body that is physically able to do amazing things.
I weighed in this week at 67.6kg. Which is my lowest weight since having my son. My methods are clearly working. Last week we saw my weight spike from the week before, this week it's dropped back down and surpassed the previous weeks weight. I am not necessarily bothered about the scale weight, but it is a way of me tracking my fat loss. I am way more excited about the numbers of the weights in the gym I lifted this week as I build on becoming the strongest version of Amber, even stronger and fitter than I was before my second pregnancy.
Sunday 3rd November: 67.6kg
